The Identity and Loss Cards offer a sensitive and accessible way for children, young people, and families to explore experiences that are often difficult to articulate. The visual prompts and gentle language create a safe entry point into conversations that might otherwise feel overwhelming. This supports practitioners to move beyond surface‑level engagement and into deeper, more meaningful dialogue.
There are a lot of strengths:
Its child centred and trauma informed. The cards promote relational practice which supports curiosity, empathy etc. The cards also promotes emotional literacy allowing families and children name their feelings.
Overall the cards supports
Deepen understanding of a child’s internal world
Strengthen rapport and trust
• Illuminate hidden losses (e.g., identity shifts, role changes, family separation)
• Support more holistic assessments
• Empower children and families to shape their own narrative
This is an innovative and visionary way of working with families experiencing Loss and exploring what identity means for them. It supports simplicity of conversations that are difficult. This is such a great tool to have in your toolkit box.

As a parent from Africa raising children in the United Kingdom, I have found the Identity and Loss card particularly meaningful. It helps me reflect on the parts of my cultural heritage that may feel less present here, while also guiding me in supporting my children to build a strong and authentic sense of who they are. For me, it is important that they grow up confident in both their African heritage and their British identity embracing each without feeling pressured to choose one over the other. This tool has helped me recognise that both cultures can coexist harmoniously in our family, enriching my children’s lives rather than creating conflict.”

Myself have not seen the cards, but have purchased them for my staff. The feefback from them is amazing. Considering the period I have worked with you Sandra, your work has been of high standard. My staff are quite happy with the cards, and are looking forward to continuing using them with the families as they await your new production. Welldone Sandra!

I recently purchased the cards and I’m genuinely impressed. These tools aren’t just practical they feel like a bridge into meaningful conversations. I can already see how they will help parents reflect, connect with their children and feel more confident in their parenting. I’m really looking forward to using them in sessions and watching the moments of insight and engagement unfold. It’s rare to find resources that are both thoughtful and practical and these truly feel like they will make a real difference. Great quality too.
This powerful set of cards is an invaluable resource for practitioners working with families. It helps break down myths surrounding intervention and provides a clear, compassionate framework for discussing reported concerns. By supporting parents to better understand the issues raised, it fosters meaningful engagement and builds trust. I highly recommend this toolkit to professionals seeking to strengthen their approach to family involvement and support.
👶 A Baby’s World
This insightful card set offers a window into a baby’s cues and emotional needs, helping parents become more attuned to their child’s development. It’s especially effective in opening up sensitive conversations around neglect, offering a gentle yet informative way to explore a baby’s experience. I encourage practitioners to use this toolkit to deepen parental understanding and promote nurturing, responsive care.
Wonderful material!

These cards make the concept of neglect incredibly straightforward to understand, making sure professionals and families are on the same page. Sandra, I don’t know how you managed to make both the subject and the cards themselves feel so approachable — but you did. I imagine many parents will want to begin their learning journey with you. Great work! 🤓

Really enjoyed the session on the cards. Would be great if SFConnects could run a session on CPD would be great for professionals to come together and discuss in greater detail.
Well done Sandra! You’ve created an amazing product.
